Welcome to Year 1

Superheroes topic

Who's your favourite superhero? Spider-Man? Wonder Woman? Maybe your heroes are ordinary people who have achieved great things. Or is it those people who save lives in our emergency services that you admire the most?

Superheroes have super senses. Use yours to identify mystery items by their smell, sound, taste and touch. What do true Superheroes eat to keep their senses and special powers sharp?

In Year 1 we will be finding out the answers to all these questions during this half term.

Remember  to come to school dressed as a Superhero on Monday 11th September!

Our Teachers

We have three classes in Year 1:

  • Miss Abdi (afternoons)

All working together to help the children to achieve their full potential and to make good progress.

If you have any questions or concerns that you would like to discuss with us then please do drop into the office to make an appointment to see us, we are more than happy to meet with you.

We have been very happy to see so many  of the children wearing their full correct school uniform and setting such a brilliant example for the rest of the school, thank you.

P.E. will be on Wednesday afternoons. All children must have a school  P.E. kit to change into. Please ensure these are named.

We encourage all children to bring a water bottle to class, which they can refill at regular intervals during the day in order to keep themselves well hydrated and to keep their brains working to the best of their ability. Please could you make sure that water bottles are labelled clearly with the child's full name.

In Year 1 reading at home  is vitally important for the children, please remember that you have access to  Bug Club to support this.

In addition all children should continue to read at home with an adult , at least three times a week  and have their reading records signed. Further to this some children will continue to receive their phonics books and they should practise and consolidate the sounds and words at home.

Children should have their reading records, reading books and sound books (if applicable) in school every day. .

Please remember to use My Maths at home to support your child's learning. Tasks will be set by teachers when appropriate to reinforce learning.  General number activities can be accessed at any point.

As we move through the Autumn Term please ensure that children have a named coat/jacket so that they can access the outdoor area in all weather.
