PE and Sport
We are committed to providing every child with a wide variety of PE and sporting opportunities as these play such an important role in the education of every pupil, with the potential to change young people’s lives for the better.
Through PE and sporting activities, our children learn to develop the important qualities of discipline, resilience, communication, team work, and ambition, leading to improved concentration, attitude, and academic achievement.
School Games Mark
We are delighted to announce that we have achieved the School Games Bronze Mark Award for the 2022/23 academic year.
The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.
Our sporting achievements in 2022/2023 included:
- Y5/6 Sportshall athletics: Hounslow West Cluster, Borough, West London finals and London Youth Games Finals
- Y5/6 Football team attending Best Football festival
- Y5/6 Bee Netball Hounslow West Cluster and London Youth Games Finals
- Y5/6 Quadkids Hounslow West Cluster and Borough finals
- Y3/4 Best Football Competition
- Y1/2 Quadkids
- Y3/4 Quadkids
- Y6 Transition festival
Within school, we also took part in the Mini London Marathon and had Middlesex Cricket in to coach two year groups, for the second year.
We are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of school sport, including those young volunteers, leaders and officials who made our competitions possible - as well as staff and parents who gave up their time to support attendance at events.
As part of our application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce and clubs, and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year.
Sports Kit Sponsorship
We're fortunate to have several local companies
sponsoring our new kits for our sports teams, including Lodge Brothers and The Rotary Club Of Feltham. A great big thank you from Fairholme for your donations which have enabled us to purchase these new team kits!
Our aims and vision
We want Fairholme pupils to participate in a wide range of physical, creative activities and be inspired to participate and develop a life long love of physical activity, sport and exercise.
So our aims and objectives are to:
- Increase universal participation in a range of physical activities
- Provide more opportunities for children to participate in sport and try new sports
- Encourage and enable children to take part in a variety of sports competitions
- Create greater links with outside sports clubs & organisations
- Guide and give pathways for gifted and talented children
Cricket Coaching
Our children have benefitted from fantastic cricket coaching, provided by Middlesex County Cricket Club and their Chance To Shine programme. Our school has been fortunate to be part of a case study, demonstrating the positive impact of sports coaching on children's behaviour, emotional well being and achievement in other curriculum areas. Read about our involvement with Middlesex Cricket on their web site here.
At Fairholme School we believe PE and sport play an important role in the education of every pupil, with the potential to change young people’s lives for the better.
Through PE and sporting activities, our children learn to develop the important qualities of discipline, resilience, communication, team work, and ambition, leading to improved concentration, attitude, and academic achievement.
Sport Competitions
We take part in a range of sports competitions throughout the year. Some of these are "friendlies" against other local schools, and some are organised across the London Borough Of Hounslow. Our teams are often successful and we have represented Hounslow in various London Youth Games Finals. You can find out more about our teams and competitions below.

Swimming at Fairholme Primary School
As part of the National Curriculum, Key Stage Two children are expected to have an opportunity to learn to swim. At Fairholme Primary School we build this into the Year 3 PE curriculum. Children will visit Hanworth Air Park Leisure Centre once a week for a half an hour swimming lesson for the duration of one term during the academic year.
A requirement of receiving Sports Premium funding from the government is that we report how well our Year 6 children can swim. To do this we ask the children the following questions: -
Q1 Can you swim confidently for a distance of 25 metres (one length of the pool)?
Q2 Can you use a range of strokes (breast stroke, back stroke, butterfly stoke etc.)?
Q3 Could you safely rescue yourself if you got into difficulty in a pool, the sea or a river?
Our current Year 6 children answered as follows: -
Q1 – 65% yes
Q2 – 69% yes
Q3 – 61% yes
