Supporting children whose first language is not English (EAL)

Many of our children come to Fairholme speaking a language other than English, and we value this diversity and knowledge in our classrooms. Some of our children speak little or no English when they arrive with us, but through a supportive and welcoming induction process, we help them to acquire the basic levels of English they need to communicate.  Gradually, as they settle in, all our children become fluent English speakers and writers, whilst still retaining their knowledge of their home language too.

We have over 30 languages spoken by children, their families and staff at Fairholme Primary School.  We are fortunate to have Mrs Kiran Harchowal who supports children with EAL (English as an Additional Language) across the school to learn English.  If you would like to make an appointment to meet or speak with her, please call the school office on 020 880 2584 or send us an email.
