Our Nursery and our Reception classes follow the Early Years Foundation Stage statutory framework, supported by the non-statutory Development Matters. The EYFS educational programmes provide us with the curriculum framework which is then built on and guided by the interest and needs of our children. The curriculum is sequential, taking small steps and then broadening and deepening learning across a wide range of experiences.

Language development within a language rich environment  is carefully planned across our indoor and outdoor environments to stimulate and enable conversation. Children learn through play and careful modelling and interaction from adults.  We support the children to become independent leaners who can problem solve and overcome challenges. Where possible our children are given the opportunity to learn through first hand experiences, such as growing their own herbs to use in real and imaginary cooking scenarios and exploring life cycles through real chicks hatching in their classrooms.

Adult interaction is carefully woven into the children's play based learning to share with them their successes as well comment on what they could improve.  Their Learning Journals are shared with parents with a mixture of comments, quotes and pictures which evidence their learning.  Parents are encouraged to add to this by sharing experiences and learning successes from home.  We are looking forward to going digital in the Summer Term which will increase the ease of sharing between home and school.
